Overview

The Dividend Forecaster projects how much dividend income a set of holdings could pay over time. You pick a source of dividend-paying stocks, choose a time horizon and a few settings, and the tool returns a year-by-year projection of your income, a month-by-month breakdown, a per-holding table, a dividend safety read, and a payment calendar. This page explains what the tool covers and who it is for. The Dividend Forecaster is available on Pro Lite and Pro. Free accounts see an upgrade prompt.

What it shows

The forecaster answers two practical questions: if your dividends keep growing the way they have, what will a portfolio pay you years from now, and how much of that income arrives in each month. It is built for income-focused investors, dividend-growth investors, and anyone planning around a stream of dividend cash flow.

You pick the holdings from one of four sources, and the tool reads each holding's dividend history to build the projection.

  • Existing portfolio: forecast income from one of your saved portfolios.
  • Combined portfolios: merge holdings across several portfolios into one run.
  • Model portfolio: use a pre-built GNG dividend model portfolio as the input.
  • Custom selection: pick tickers and share counts by hand.

The tool runs in two modes. The default is a probabilistic run that produces a central projection plus a confidence band, a plausible high-to-low range. You can switch to a faster deterministic run that produces a single projected line with no band.

After a run, the results panel holds an income summary, two charts, a per-holding breakdown, a contribution table, a monthly payment schedule, a dividend safety analysis, and a payment calendar. Each of these is documented in the pages linked below.

Use cases

  • Plan retirement or early-retirement income by projecting how a dividend portfolio's payout grows over a long horizon.
  • Compare a reinvestment-on path against a reinvestment-off path to see how much compounding adds.
  • Check the monthly distribution of your income and find light months to fill with complementary payers.
  • Stress-test income with the confidence band to see a plausible high-to-low range, not a single number.
  • Screen a custom list of dividend candidates for growth and safety before committing capital.

Limitations and disclosures

The projection grows each holding's dividend from its own history. Companies can raise, freeze, or cut dividends in ways history does not predict. Results are estimates and are one input among several in your own research.
