How to read the results
Beyond the main table, the Options Screener gives you a per-contract detail card with a price-and-Greeks history chart, a day-by-day history table, and a set of preset strategies that apply a full filter set in one step. This page explains how to read each of these. The Options Screener is available to signed-in Pro accounts. Free and Pro Lite do not include access.
Before you begin
- Sign in and open the Options Screener.
- For the meaning of each metric the detail card shows, see Results and columns.
Quickstart
Open a contract
Select any row to open its detail card.
Read the chart
Use the Chart Overlays selector above the chart to toggle the series you care about.
Try a preset
Close the card, select GNG's Queries, and run a preset to apply a ready-made screen.
What it shows
The Options Screener presents most of its output as the results table, plus three additional surfaces: the contract detail card, the price-and-Greeks history chart inside that card, and the GNG's Queries preset panel. These are described in the following sections.
Contract detail card
Select any row to open a detailed card for that contract. It contains:
- The price-and-Greeks history chart, with toggleable series.
- Grouped metric cards: Pricing, Moneyness and Probability, Volume and Liquidity, Contract Status, Greeks, and IV Metrics, plus a model-based Edge card that lines up theoretical price against market price with the dollar and percent edge.
- A link to the underlying stock's research page.
- The Historical Contract Data table, a dated, day-by-day table of Last, Mark, Bid, Ask, Bid Size, Ask Size, Volume, Open Interest, IV, and all five Greeks for that one contract, with its own Export CSV button.
Price and Greeks history chart
This is the screener's main visualization. It plots the day-by-day history of one specific contract over roughly the last three months, overlaid with the underlying stock's closing price on matching dates.
- X axis: date. Each point is a daily snapshot for that contract.
- Left Y axis: prices and the primary selected metric. It uses dollars by default, switches to a percent scale when implied volatility is the primary series, or to a count scale for volume and open interest.
- Right Y axis: the Greeks, shown only when one or more Greeks are selected, on their own scale so small Greek values stay readable next to dollar prices.
- Series you can toggle: through the Chart Overlays selector above the chart, you can show or hide Stock Price, Last, Mark, Bid, Ask, Implied Vol, Volume, Open Interest, Delta, Gamma, Theta, Vega, and Rho. Each series has its own color, and a legend labels them. By default the chart shows Last, Delta, and Theta, and a Reset to defaults link restores that.
This is the only chart in the tool. Everything else the screener outputs is presented as numbers, tables, or score values.
Preset strategies (GNG's Queries)
The GNG's Queries panel holds five ready-made screens. Each is a complete filter set plus an educational write-up. Run Query applies the strategy's filters and sorting in one step. Learn More opens a four-tab explainer (Info, How, Examples, Risk) describing the strategy's goal, the metrics it leans on, a step-by-step approach, illustrative example trades, and a risk assessment with a risk-level indicator. The five presets are described under How it is calculated.
Outputs and how to read them
The chart and the presets reward a focused reading.
- Read the chart by series: pick the series you care about. Watching Last alongside Stock Price shows how the option's price tracked the underlying. Watching Delta and Theta shows how directional sensitivity and time decay evolved as expiration approached.
- Use the tooltip: hover any date to see a tooltip listing every active series and its value. Prices show in dollars, IV as a percent, the Greeks to four decimals, and volume and open interest as counts. Lines connect across gaps where a series has missing days.
- Read the Edge card: a positive edge means the market price sits below the model's theoretical price, so the contract looks underpriced versus the model. A negative edge means it looks rich. Treat the reading as a screening signal, not a guarantee.
- Read the chips: every applied filter shows as a labeled chip above the table, for example "DTE 30 to 60" or "Type: Put". Select the X on a chip to remove that one filter, or Clear All to remove them at once.
How it is calculated
The chart reads the contract's stored day-by-day history and overlays the underlying stock's closing prices on matching dates; no proprietary scoring is applied to draw it. The presets apply transparent filter conditions on the metrics, then sort. What each preset looks for:
- Market Maker Arbitrage: contracts where market price diverges from the model's fair value, shown as positive edge, with solid liquidity.
- High-Probability Premium Collection: far out-of-the-money options with a high probability of expiring worthless, in expensive-volatility conditions, for premium sellers.
- Gamma Scalping Setup: high-gamma, near-the-money, liquid contracts for delta-neutral volatility trading.
- Volatility Mean Reversion: extreme IV-rank contracts, sorted to surface the most expensive volatility first as sell candidates, with the cheapest at the bottom as buy candidates.
- Liquidity Provider Flow: the highest-volume contracts with tight spreads, for market-making-style flow.
The model behind the edge, the probabilities, and the liquidity score is proprietary. This documentation describes what each preset targets and how to read its output, not the model's internal weights or thresholds.
Data and timing
The detail card and its chart read the contract's day-by-day history, captured from daily snapshots sourced from AlphaVantage, with the underlying stock's closing prices delivered via AlphaVantage. The history covers roughly the last three months for each contract. Values reflect daily snapshots rather than live intraday quotes, and gaps appear where a series has missing days.
Use cases
- Study one contract in depth before acting: open its detail card and watch how its price and Greeks evolved alongside the stock.
- Compare the model's edge to the live market on a contract you are considering.
- Use a preset as a fast starting screen, then adjust the resulting filters to fit your own criteria.
- Export one contract's full history from the detail card for your own records.
Limitations and disclosures
The chart and the history table reflect daily snapshots, not live intraday quotes, and some days may be missing. The preset strategies' example trades and return ranges are illustrative teaching material, not results you should expect. The model-based Edge and probability readings are screening signals, not predictions. Because this surface presents model-based signals and strategy write-ups you may act on, it carries the disclosure below.
