Model and public portfolios

The model marketplace is a collection of read-only model portfolios published by the GNG team and by other members. Each model shows its strategy and its track record, so you can study an approach before researching the holdings yourself. Where it is enabled for your account, you can also publish one of your own portfolios as a read-only model. The marketplace is a Pro feature. Free and Pro Lite accounts can still build and view their own portfolios on the portfolio page.

Before you begin

  • Sign in on a Pro account. The model marketplace is available to Pro accounts only.
  • Free and Pro Lite accounts build and view their own portfolios instead. See Manual portfolios.
  • To publish your own model, have a portfolio ready and publishing enabled for your account.

Quickstart

  1. Open the model marketplace

Go to the model marketplace to see the grid of published models.

  2. Filter and search

Use the search box and the category filter to narrow the grid to a strategy you want to study.

  3. Open a model

Select a model to open its read-only detail view and review its holdings and performance.

What it shows

  • A searchable grid of model portfolios, filterable by category, showing each model's name, description, owner, and headline return.
  • Each model's performance, shown by its chosen methodology: time-weighted, money-weighted (XIRR), or simple.
  • A read-only detail view of a model's holdings and performance. You can view a model but not edit one you do not own.
  • An option, where enabled for your account, to publish one of your portfolios as a read-only model.

Inputs

  • Search: free text, matched against name, description, or owner.
  • Category filter: a strategy category, or all categories.
  • Publish as model: a toggle and a category field, available when you create or edit your own portfolio if publishing is enabled for you.

Outputs and how to read them

  • Model card return: the model's total return and annualized return, labeled by methodology so you know how the figure is measured.
  • Strategy and track record: a way to study a model's composition and history before making any decision yourself.

How it is calculated

Each model picks how its return is measured, and the card reads the model's published figures for that methodology.

Model headline return

A model publishes its total return and annualized return under one of three methodologies. A time-weighted return removes the effect of deposits and withdrawals, so it reflects investment performance only. A money-weighted return (XIRR) reflects the timing and size of cash flows. A simple return is a straightforward start-to-finish change.

card return = published total return percent and annualized return percent for the selected methodology

In this formula, total return percent and annualized return percent are the model's published figures for the methodology shown on the card. A time-weighted figure uses the chained daily-growth approach described in Performance and returns. For example, a model labeled TWR showing plus 58% total and plus 14% annualized means a dollar invested grew 58% over the model's life, about 14% per year, independent of when money was added. Two models that use different methodologies are not directly comparable, so read the label before comparing.

Data and timing

Model holdings come from the publisher's portfolio. Performance uses end-of-day prices from AlphaVantage (Nasdaq quotes delivered through AlphaVantage) and refreshes on recompute and on the daily data refresh.

Use cases

  • Browse team-published strategies, such as dividend growth or technology momentum, for ideas.
  • Compare a model's track record before researching its holdings yourself.
  • Publish your own portfolio as a read-only model for others to follow.

Limitations and disclosures

Model portfolios are illustrative, not personalized recommendations. The return shown depends on the model's stated methodology and excludes your own fees and taxes, so read the methodology label before comparing two models.
