Price
The Price view shows daily price history with optional events and volume. Use it to inspect a company's past trading and add your own annotations. Free, Pro Lite, and Pro can use the view.
Before you begin
Open a company in Advanced Charting.
Quickstart
- Select Price and choose the historical window.
- Select a display style.
- Open Overlays to add events or volume.
- Inspect the dates and values on the chart.
What it shows
Select a display style:
| Style | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Candles | Daily open, high, low, and close as candlesticks. |
| OHLC | Daily open, high, low, and close as bars. |
| Line | A line through closing prices. |
| Area | Closing prices with a filled area. |
Inputs
Overlays
Open Overlays and select the information to display.
- Earnings marks reported earnings events.
- Dividend declaration, Ex-dividend, and Pay date distinguish the stages of a dividend.
- Splits marks share-split events.
- Beat/miss coloring distinguishes earnings outcomes where available.
- Volume displays trading volume.
Event markers appear only where matching data exists. A missing marker does not prove that no event occurred.
Draw on a chart
Drawing controls appear on desktop. Your drawings belong to the selected company.
| Tool | Action |
|---|---|
| Select | Select an existing drawing. |
| Trend | Draw a trend line. |
| H Line | Add a horizontal reference. |
| H Ray | Add a horizontal ray from a starting point. |
| V Line | Add a vertical reference. |
| Text | Place a note on the chart. |
| Delete | Remove the selected drawing. |
| Clear | Remove the company's drawings. |
For Trend, click the first point, move to the second point, and click again to finish the line. For H Line, H Ray, or V Line, click once at the reference location. For Text, select a location and enter the note.
Choose Select to select an existing drawing or drag it to a new position. Press Escape to cancel unfinished drawing work; this does not leave the active drawing tool. Choose Select or toggle the active tool off to leave drawing mode. Select a drawing before using Delete. Drawing limits apply to each company.
On mobile, use the chart and its view controls. Create drawings on desktop.
Data and timing
The chart presents daily observations, adjusted for share splits. It is not an intraday trading chart. Dividends are separate events; enabling their markers does not turn price history into a reinvested return series.
Limitations and disclosures
Drawings are your annotations. They do not place trades or predict a price move.
