Valuation

The Valuation view compares a company's price with the valuation measure you select. Use it to distinguish historical observations from forecast assumptions. It is available on Free, Pro Lite, and Pro.

Before you begin

Open a company in Advanced Charting, then select Valuation.

Quickstart

  1. Select Valuation and a supported price-to measure.
  2. Choose the historical window.
  3. Review the legend and inspect a date on the chart.
  4. Add available Forecast years to distinguish estimated values from history.

What it shows

SeriesHow to read it
PriceDaily closing price adjusted for share splits.
Daily MultipleThe selected valuation ratio over time. Read its ratio axis, not the price axis.
Normal MultipleA historical reference for the selected window.
Formula Fair ValueA valuation estimate for this measure. It is not the company page's combined fair value.
Historical Normal ValuePrice context based on the company's historical valuation relationship.
Formula Value AreaThe filled valuation area for the selected measure and reporting basis.
DividendsDividend amounts displayed above the valuation area. This is not a total-return price line.
Consensus at Formula MultipleA price scenario using analyst estimates and the displayed valuation assumption.
Consensus at Normal MultipleA price scenario using analyst estimates and historical valuation context.
Consensus Dividend BandAvailable dividend estimates added to the forecast display.

The legend changes for PEG and PEGY views. Read the Fair, Median, and Consensus labels associated with the selected ratio. Hide a series by selecting its legend entry; select it again to restore it.

Outputs and how to read them

The summary

Hover or touch a date to see that point's readings. Move away to return to the current summary.

  • Latest close is the latest plotted close.
  • A valuation multiple can show its reporting basis, such as trailing or blended. Compare figures with the same basis.
  • Dividend yield (LTM) uses dividends over the last twelve months.
  • Growth names the measure and period used.
  • Vs historical normal and Vs formula fair show the relationship to those references. Positive indicates above the reference; negative indicates below it.
  • Dated To formula fair and To normal multiple readings are annualized scenarios through the stated end date, including the dividend assumption.
  • Window and Periods describe the history in the chart.

Forecast points show their fiscal period, estimated financial measure, scenario values, and available dividend estimates. The forecast region is distinct from historical observations.

Growth-based ratios

For PEG and PEGY, distinguish consensus growth, which describes expected growth, from window growth, which describes realized growth over the selected history. The current ratio and historical median can use different growth bases. Read the basis labels before comparing them.

An unavailable growth rate, insufficient history, or an unsuitable financial measure can leave a ratio or fair-value reading unavailable. Widen the window when the displayed notice requests more history.

Data and timing

Prices, reported financial periods, and future fiscal estimates do not update together. Check the date and basis for each reading. Forecast availability varies by company and measure.

Limitations and disclosures

GNG valuation estimates and their calibration are proprietary. Historical valuation levels do not establish a future price. See Projection for the standard return arithmetic used to compare selected points.
