The article list

The article list is the browsing surface for all published research on GNG Research. Tabs, a search box, and a filter panel narrow a feed of magazine-style cards down to the pieces you want to read. This page explains what the list shows, the controls you set, how to read each card, and how the ranking and reading-time figures are computed. The list is open to everyone, and which individual cards open in full depends on the article and your plan.

Before you begin

  • Open the Research list. Anyone can browse it, signed in or not. For a higher-level tour of the section, see Articles overview.
  • Sign in if you want the Saved tab, or to like and bookmark cards. The Saved tab and these controls need an account.

What it shows

The list is a single cohesive panel that holds the header, the toolbar, and the card feed, with a sidebar of supporting panels to the right.

  • Tabs: Latest, Most Popular, and Saved. The Saved tab appears only when you are signed in.
  • A search box in the toolbar.
  • A Filters button that opens a side panel. When any filter is set, an "Active" marker appears on the button and removable chips appear under the toolbar.
  • The card feed: each card is a magazine layout with a hero image on one side and a text column on the other.
  • An empty state when no articles match, with different wording depending on whether filters are active, and a loading state of placeholder cards while results load.

Anatomy of a card

Each card reads top to bottom in three bands.

  • Top row: the primary ticker (logo and symbol) and any secondary tickers on the left, an access badge and a saved chip on the right.
  • Body: the title, then a short bullet summary, then the return-since-published chip for the primary ticker.
  • Footer: the tags, then the author or authors, the publish date, the reading time, the view count, and the comment count, with a like control and a bookmark control pinned to the bottom-right.

To open an article, select anywhere on a card except the like or bookmark control. The like and bookmark controls act on the card without opening the article.

Inputs

Set any combination of the following controls to shape the feed.

  • Search: free text that matches article content. The default is empty. Search applies as you type.
  • Tab: Latest, Most Popular, or Saved. The default is Latest. Latest sorts by newest first. Most Popular sorts by views and limits the field to the past 30 days. Saved shows your bookmarked articles.

The Filters panel applies its settings on confirm and holds the following controls.

  • Author: one author or All authors. The default is All authors.
  • Sort by: Most recent, Trending, Most viewed, or Most discussed. The default is Most recent. Sort is held fixed while a tab controls the order.
  • Tags: type to search existing tags or add tags. The default is none.
  • Primary tickers and Secondary tickers: type to search and select symbols. The default is none.
  • From date and To date: pick a publish-date window from a calendar. The default is none.
  • Sectors and Industries: selected in the filter flow; they filter the feed to articles whose primary or secondary tickers belong to the chosen sectors or industries.
  • Clear all resets every filter. Apply filters confirms.

Outputs and how to read them

  • The feed: the set of cards that match your tab, search, and filters, in the active sort order.
  • Access badge: a "Preview" badge (eye icon) means a free opening is available, and an "Upgrade" badge (lock icon) means the article is locked on your plan. No badge means full access on your plan.
  • Saved chip: an amber chip that marks a card you have bookmarked and shows when you saved it.
  • Filter chips: each active tag, ticker, sector, or industry shows as a removable chip; select the chip to drop that filter.
  • Active marker on the Filters button: at least one filter is set.
  • Empty state: no articles match. If filters are active, the wording invites you to clear them; on the Saved tab, it invites you to bookmark articles.

How it is calculated

Two figures on this page are computed: the Most Popular ranking window and the estimated reading time. Sorting otherwise orders the feed by a plain field.

The Most Popular tab ranks by how much an article has been viewed and limits the field to recent pieces, so an old evergreen article does not dominate. It sorts by view count and includes only articles published within the past 30 days. A strong older article falls out of the Most Popular tab once it ages past the 30-day window, even if it is still widely read.

Reading time approximates how long an article takes to read. The estimate divides the article's word count by an assumed reading speed and rounds up to the next whole minute, with a floor of one minute.

reading time (minutes) = max(1, ceiling(word count / 250))

In this formula, word count is the number of words in the article body (text only, measured when the card renders), and 250 is an assumed reading speed in words per minute. For example, an article with 1,100 words gives 1,100 divided by 250, which is 4.4, rounded up to 5 minutes. The estimate uses a fixed reading speed and counts only text, so an article heavy with charts, tables, or formulas may read faster or slower than the figure suggests.

Sorting by Most recent, Most viewed, or Most discussed orders the feed by publish date, view count, or comment count respectively. No proprietary scoring is involved.

Data and timing

Articles, tickers, tags, authors, view counts, and comment counts come from the platform and update as articles are published and read. The return chip on each card uses end-of-day adjusted closing prices from AlphaVantage, which covers Nasdaq-listed and other U.S. quotes, against the S&P 500 proxy SPY, refreshed once per trading day after the close. Sector and industry filtering matches against the company classifications the platform holds for each featured ticker.

Use cases

  • Narrow the feed to one analyst by setting the author filter.
  • Find every article that features a given stock by adding its symbol to the primary or secondary ticker filter.
  • Limit a search to a date window, for example earnings season, with the from-date and to-date pickers.
  • Return to pieces you saved earlier by opening the Saved tab.

Tier access

The list is open to everyone, including Free, Pro Lite, and Pro accounts. The Saved tab requires a signed-in account. Whether a given card opens in full depends on the article and your plan, as covered in Read an article. For current plans, see the table below.

The live plan details are shown on the pricing page in the application.

Limitations and disclosures

The list itself presents no valuation or forecast, so no investment-advice statement is required here. The return chip on each card presents past performance; for how to read it, see Return-since-published badges.
