Comments and replies

This page shows you how to take part in the discussion under a research article. You can post a comment, reply to others, mention people, like comments, and edit or delete your own. It also explains the "GNG Team" mark, the author-liked note, and the reply layout. Commenting needs a signed-in account but not a paid plan, and you can comment only on an article you can open.

Before you begin

  • Sign in to your account. Anonymous visitors see the comments and a prompt to sign in, but cannot post, reply, like, edit, or delete.
  • Open an article you can read. You can comment only on an article you can open; access to the article itself follows the rules in Read an article.

What it shows

The comments section sits below the article body, headed "Comments" with the total count.

  • A line confirming the account you are signed in as.
  • A comment box that supports mentioning another person with the @ symbol, with a character count up to a 5,000-character limit.
  • The list of comments, each showing the commenter's first name (or their chosen username), the time posted, and an "edited" or "removed" note where it applies.
  • A subtle gold GNG Team mark on a comment where the commenter is a team member. The specific staff role is not shown.
  • Per comment: a like control with its count, a reply control, and, on your own comments, edit and delete controls.
  • A gold Liked by [author] note beside the like control on comments the article's author has liked.
  • Replies grouped under their parent, with a "Replying to [name]" link that jumps to the parent comment.

Steps

  1. Post a comment

Write your text in the comment box, then select Post Comment. Pressing Enter also posts the comment; Shift+Enter adds a line break. The Post control stays disabled while the box is over the 5,000-character limit.

  2. Mention someone

Type @ and pick a person from the list to mention them. A mention can notify the person you named.

  3. Reply to a comment

Select Reply on a comment, write your reply, then select Post Reply. Your reply is grouped under the parent comment. On a small screen, the reply box opens as a centered popup.

  4. Like a comment

Select the like control on any comment to like it. Select it again to remove your like.

  5. Edit your own comment

Select Edit on your comment, change the text, then select Save. The comment then shows an "edited" note.

  6. Delete your own comment

Select Delete on your comment and confirm. Deletion cannot be undone, and the comment then shows as "removed."

Outputs and how to read them

  • Comment count in the header reflects all comments and replies. From the article header, signed-in readers can select the comment count to jump straight to this section.
  • GNG Team: marks a comment from a member of the team. The specific staff role is not shown.
  • Liked by [author]: signals that the article's author found a comment valuable.
  • edited: the comment was changed after posting. removed: the comment was deleted by its owner.
  • Replying to [name]: links a reply to its parent. Selecting it scrolls to and briefly highlights the parent comment.

The comment count is a direct tally of comments and replies. No figure on this page is computed from a formula.

Data and timing

Comments are stored and shown by the platform and appear immediately after posting. A mention can notify the mentioned person. No external market data sits behind this feature.

Use cases

  • Ask the author a follow-up question about a thesis.
  • Reply to another reader to debate a point, mentioning them so they see it.
  • Like the most useful comments so they stand out to others.
  • Correct a typo in your own comment with the edit control, or remove a comment you no longer want public.

Tier access

Any signed-in reader can comment, including Free, Pro Lite, and Pro accounts. Commenting requires a signed-in account but not a paid plan. You can comment only on an article you can open. The comments section sits on the article reader, which is open to all, as covered in Read an article. For current plans, see the table below.

The live plan details are shown on the pricing page in the application.

Limitations and disclosures

The comments section produces no valuation, rating, or forecast, so no investment-advice statement is required here. Comments are reader-contributed opinions, not platform research.
