Read an article
This page shows you how to open a research article, read the full write-up, and see how the headline call has performed since publication. It also explains how your plan decides whether you read a premium article in full, as a free preview, or behind a lock. The article reader is open to everyone, and full access to a given article is decided per article.
Before you begin
- Open the Research list. Anyone can browse it, signed in or not. For the list and its filters, see Articles overview.
- Sign in if you want to like, bookmark, share, comment, or use your monthly premium-read allowance. These need an account.
Steps
Open an article
Select any card in the Research list, or open an article link directly. The article header shows the featured tickers, tags, the title, the hero image, and a short bullet summary.
Read the performance strip
Below the header, read the "Performance since publication" strip. It shows the primary ticker's return, the S&P 500 (SPY) return, and the number of trading days since the article went live. For how these figures are computed, see Return-since-published badges.
Read the body
Scroll through the article body: text, images you can tap to enlarge, and embedded research panels such as charts and tables. Tap an image to open it full-screen, then close it to return.
Optional: listen to the article
With full access, use the listen control to have the article read aloud. Start, pause, and stop playback, and set the speed to 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x. The default speed is 1x. Read-aloud uses your device's built-in voice where your browser supports it.
Read the disclosures and comments
At the end of the body, read the author disclosures block where the author has stated their position and compensation. Below it, the comments section carries reader discussion. To post or reply, see Comments.
Outputs and how to read them
- Full article: when your plan covers the article, the complete body renders with all panels and the action controls (like, bookmark, share, and listen).
- Free preview with a continue prompt: some premium articles show the opening section, then a blurred preview and a prompt to create a free account or upgrade. Read the free portion, then choose to sign up or upgrade to continue.
- Locked card: a premium article you cannot open shows a "Premium content" card with options to sign in or view plans. On a plan that includes a monthly premium-read allowance, if you have used it up the card reads "Premium reads used up," tells you how many you get, and shows the date your allowance resets.
- Refresh session: this button appears only if your subscription is active but access could not be confirmed. Select it to re-check your access.
How it is calculated
Two things are decided as you open an article: which articles you can open, and the performance figures at the top.
Each article lists the plans it is written for. The platform compares your plan to that list and shows the full article, a free preview, or a lock. If your plan is one of the article's allowed plans, you read it in full. Articles marked free-inclusive are open to everyone. Some plans include a small monthly allowance of premium articles: while that allowance has room, you open a premium article in full, and re-opening one you already opened this month does not use another slot. When the allowance is used up, further premium articles lock until it resets at the start of the next calendar month.
premium reads remaining = monthly allowance − distinct premium articles opened this month
In this formula, monthly allowance is the number of premium articles included per calendar month on a plan with a finite cap, and distinct premium articles opened this month counts each premium article once per calendar month, no matter how many times you reopen it. For example, on a plan whose allowance is a single premium article per month, opening your first premium article reads in full. Opening a second, different premium article that month shows the "premium reads used up" card with the reset date. Re-opening the first article still reads in full, because it does not count again. The allowance counts distinct premium articles opened within the current calendar month, so it resets on the first of the month, not on a rolling 30-day window. The exact allowance for your plan is shown on the tier table and in the "premium reads used up" card, never fixed in this guide.
The performance strip is identical to the return-since-published badge. For its formula and worked example, see Return-since-published badges.
Data and timing
Article text and panels come from the platform. The performance strip uses end-of-day prices from AlphaVantage, which covers Nasdaq-listed and other U.S. quotes, against the S&P 500 proxy SPY, updated once per trading day after the close. View counts update as the article is read. Read-aloud is generated on your device in real time.
Tier access
Free accounts read free-inclusive articles in full and get a free preview for many premium articles. Pro Lite reads free-inclusive articles in full and adds a monthly allowance of premium articles. Pro reads all published articles in full. The reader page itself does not require a subscription to open; full access to a given article's text is decided per article as described above. For current plans, see the table below.
Use cases
- Read a full research write-up on a company you follow, then tap the charts to inspect them closely.
- Skim a premium article's free opening to decide whether to upgrade for the rest.
- Listen to an article hands-free during a commute using read-aloud.
- Use your monthly premium-article allowance on the single piece you most want to read this month.
Limitations and disclosures
Articles present analysis and may discuss valuations or calls, so each article is research and education, not personalized investment advice. The author disclosures block and the platform disclosure appear on articles the author has certified. For how to interpret article research, see Equity research, not investment advice.
GNG Research provides equity research and educational tools, not investment advice. Nothing on the platform is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Do your own research and consider your circumstances before making any investment decision.
