Overview

The Research section is the library of analyst articles on GNG Research, where you browse, filter, and open written research. This page explains what the list shows, the filters you can set, and how to read the figures on each card. The Research list is open to everyone, and which individual articles you can open in full depends on the article and your plan.

What it shows

The Research page opens with a "Research" header and the line "Insights, analysis, and updates from the GNG team." Below the header, the list and its controls fill the page.

  • A search box and three tabs: Latest, Most Popular, and, when you are signed in, Saved.
  • A Filters panel, opened from the toolbar, with search text, author, tags, primary tickers, secondary tickers, sectors, industries, a from-date, a to-date, and a sort control.
  • A scrolling list of article cards. Each card shows the hero image, the primary and secondary tickers with company logos, an access badge when the article is locked or partly free, a saved chip when you have bookmarked it, the title, a short bullet summary, a return-since-published chip for the primary ticker, the author or authors, the publish date, an estimated reading time, the view count, the comment count, and the article tags. A like control and a bookmark control sit at the bottom-right of each card.
  • A sidebar with supporting panels, for example popular articles and trending tickers.
  • A newsletter signup card and a signup call to action below the list.

Inputs

Set any combination of the following controls to narrow the list.

  • Search: free text that matches article content. The default is empty.
  • Tab: Latest (newest first), Most Popular (most viewed over the past 30 days), or Saved (your bookmarked articles, signed-in only). The default is Latest.
  • Author: pick one author to filter by, or All authors. The default is All authors.
  • Tags: select one or more tags. The default is none.
  • Primary tickers and Secondary tickers: filter to articles that feature those symbols. The default is none.
  • Sectors and Industries: filter to articles whose featured tickers belong to those sectors or industries. The default is none.
  • From date and To date: limit to a publish-date window. The default is none.
  • Sort: Most recent, Trending, Most viewed, or Most discussed. The default is Most recent. While you are on the Latest or Most Popular tab, sort is controlled by the tab and the manual sort control is held fixed.

Outputs and how to read them

  • Access badge: tells you whether you can open the article in full, see a free preview, or need to upgrade. A "Preview" badge (eye icon) means a free opening is available; an "Upgrade" badge (lock icon) means the article is locked on your plan. A card with no badge is fully readable on your plan.
  • Saved chip: an amber chip on cards you have bookmarked, showing the date you saved it.
  • Return-since-published chip: a small colored chip on the primary ticker. Green with an up arrow means the stock is up since the article was published, red with a down arrow means it is down, and a muted "FLAT" chip means the move is under one tenth of one percent. The chip also shows the S&P 500 (SPY) move over the same span for comparison. For the full reading guide, see Return-since-published badges.
  • Reading time: an estimate in minutes. See the calculation below.
  • View count and comment count: show how widely read and discussed the article is.

How it is calculated

Reading time is the only number computed on this page. The other card figures are described on their own pages.

Reading time approximates how long the article takes to read, so you can decide whether to open it now. The estimate divides the article's word count by an assumed reading speed and rounds up to the next whole minute, with a floor of one minute.

reading time (minutes) = max(1, ceiling(word count / 250))

In this formula, word count is the number of words in the article body (text only, measured when the card renders), and 250 is an assumed reading speed in words per minute. For example, an article with 1,100 words gives 1,100 divided by 250, which is 4.4, rounded up to 5 minutes. The estimate uses a fixed reading speed and counts only text, so articles heavy with charts, tables, or formulas may read faster or slower than the figure suggests.

Data and timing

Article content, tickers, tags, authors, and the view and comment counts come from the platform. The return chip is computed from end-of-day share prices sourced from AlphaVantage, which includes Nasdaq-listed quotes, against the S&P 500 proxy SPY, refreshed once each trading day after the market closes. The list reflects what has been published and updates as new articles go live.

Use cases

  • Find the newest research before the market opens by staying on the Latest tab.
  • See what other readers are engaging with by switching to Most Popular.
  • Build a focused reading list on one company by filtering to its ticker, then bookmark the best pieces to the Saved tab.
  • Scan a sector by selecting it in the sector filter to surface every article that features a company in that sector.

Tier access

The Research list at /articles is open to everyone, including Free, Pro Lite, and Pro accounts. Which individual articles open in full depends on each article and your plan. For the per-article rules, see Read an article. For current plans, see the table below.

The live plan details are shown on the pricing page in the application.

Limitations and disclosures

The list itself presents no valuation or forecast, so no investment-advice statement is required here. The research framing applies once you open an article. For how to read article research, see Equity research, not investment advice.
