Data security: what we collect and why

This page explains, in plain language, the personal and financial information GNG Research collects, why each kind is collected, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and the choices you have over it. It is a summary of the full Privacy Policy, written so you can understand your data at a glance. The page is public and available to everyone, regardless of plan.

What it shows

GNG groups the information it collects into four categories, described in the following sections.

Account information

This is what makes your account work: your name, your email, your password (kept only in hashed form, never as plain text), your subscription level, and any investor-profile preferences you choose to share. This information signs you in, runs your account, and tailors what you see.

Usage data

To keep the platform working and improve it, GNG records how the platform is used: log-ins, device and network information (including IP address), session events, feature interactions, and error diagnostics. This data helps operate the tools, fix problems, and protect the platform.

Financial research inputs you create

These are the inputs you make for your own use: watchlists, saved securities, ratings, and notes. They are stored so they are there when you return. When you securely connect your brokerage account, the holdings and transaction information from that connection are treated as your financial data under these same practices.

Communications

These are your interactions with GNG: support requests, survey responses, and your notification preferences. They let GNG answer your questions and send only what you have asked for.

Why each is collected

GNG collects information for a defined set of reasons, not for open-ended use:

  • To sign you in and run your account.
  • To operate and improve the tools.
  • To send transactional messages such as password resets, billing notices, and service announcements.
  • To provide support.
  • To protect the platform from fraud and abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations.

How information is shared

GNG states that it does not sell personal information. It shares information only with trusted service providers that help run the platform (for example hosting, storage, analytics, and email delivery), with professional advisors where needed, and where required by law. None of the market data from AlphaVantage, EDGAR, or Nasdaq is personal data about you.

Retention and security

GNG keeps information for as long as it is needed to provide the service and meet legal duties, then removes it. To protect it, GNG uses encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring.

Your choices

You control your information through several routes:

  • Update your details and notification preferences in your profile.
  • Opt out of non-essential emails using the master email switch (see Notifications) or the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting support at support@gngresearch.com. You can also schedule account deletion yourself; see Manage your profile.

Use cases

  • A privacy-conscious prospect reads this before signing up to understand what is collected and why.
  • A member wants to confirm that GNG does not sell their data.
  • A member preparing to leave wants to confirm they can request deletion of their data.
