Ratings overview
GNG Research shows several distinct rating families for a company, each answering a different question. Because they measure different things, they can agree or disagree on purpose, and that disagreement is informative. This page explains what each family covers, how to read the colors, and why disagreement between them is useful. The ratings live in the GNG Scoring and Valuation panel, which requires the Pro plan. What it shows
Inside the GNG Scoring and Valuation panel, the rating families appear together.
- GNG Valuation Rating (seven tiers, price versus fair value): how cheap or expensive the stock is on GNG Research's intrinsic value. See Fair value and valuation.
- Safety Rating (0 to 100): how financially sturdy the company is and how safe its dividend looks. See Safety rating.
- Quality Rating (0 to 100): how high-quality the underlying business is. See Quality rating.
- GNG Quant: a Buy, Hold, or Sell rating that ranks the company against the broad market on several investing factors. See GNG Quant rating.
- Wall Street Consensus: the analyst-community Buy, Hold, or Sell rating and the implied upside, shown for comparison. See Wall Street consensus.
Inputs
The ratings take no input. Each family is precomputed per company and refreshed on a regular schedule. Each rating family is fed by a different category of evidence: the valuation rating compares price to GNG Research's fair value, the Safety score weighs balance-sheet strength and dividend dependability, the Quality score weighs business quality and durability, the Quant rating ranks the company against the market on a set of factors, and the Wall Street consensus aggregates published analyst opinions. Each family's own page describes its inputs at a high level. The internal methods that produce them are proprietary and are not published.
Outputs and how to read them
- The seven valuation tiers, from most attractive to least, are Ultra Value Buy, Very Strong Buy, Strong Buy, Good Buy, Reasonable Buy, Hold, and Trim or Sell. Buy-leaning tiers read green or blue, Hold reads in the accent color, and the Trim tier reads red.
- The Safety and Quality scores are percentages out of 100; higher is better.
- The Quant rating uses five bands: Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell, and Strong Sell.
- The Wall Street consensus uses the same five-band labels, with an upside figure that is positive when analysts' average target sits above today's price.
- The point of showing them together is contrast. A stock can be a GNG Research value buy yet a Quant hold on momentum, or the reverse. Read the panel as several lenses on one company, not as a single verdict.
Data and timing
All rating families recompute on a regular schedule after the close, from AlphaVantage data that includes analyst votes and target prices.

Limitations and disclosures
Each rating reflects only the question it is built to answer, so no single badge should be read as advice to buy or sell, and the families can disagree by design. This panel presents ratings and carries the disclosure below.
