Wall Street consensus
The Wall Street consensus is the analyst-community consensus rating and the implied upside, shown so you can compare the Street's view to GNG Research's independent view. It is sourced from published analyst opinions, not from a GNG Research model. This page explains what it shows and how to read it. The block lives in the GNG Scoring and Valuation panel, which requires the Pro plan. Free and Pro Lite accounts see an upgrade prompt.
Before you begin
- Sign in on a Pro account. The figures and their underlying data are returned only to Pro and above.
- Open a company page by ticker first. For the steps, see Look up a company.
What it shows
The Wall Street Consensus block shows an Analyst Rating (Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell, or Strong Sell) and an Analyst Upside, the percentage gap between the analyst target price and the current price.
Inputs
The figures take no input. Both are precomputed per company.
- The Analyst Rating aggregates the opinions of the analysts who cover the company into a single consensus rating.
- The Analyst Upside compares the analysts' average price target to the current price.
The way the individual opinions are aggregated, and any adjustments applied to keep targets comparable through events such as stock splits, are handled internally and are not published in detail.
Outputs and how to read them
- The Analyst Rating uses five bands: Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell, and Strong Sell. It summarizes where covering analysts stand on balance.
- The Analyst Upside is a percentage. A positive figure, shown green, means the average analyst target sits above today's price. A negative figure, shown red, means it sits below.
- Only companies with published analyst coverage carry a rating. With no coverage, the consensus reads Hold by default.
Data and timing
Analyst ratings and target prices come from AlphaVantage, compared to the latest close delivered through AlphaVantage from Nasdaq, recomputed on a regular schedule after the close.
Use cases
- Compare GNG Research's independent value rating with the Street's consensus.
- Gauge how much upside the analyst community sees relative to today's price.
- Spot cases where GNG Research and Wall Street disagree, which can flag a stock worth a closer look.
Limitations and disclosures
Analyst targets are opinions, they lag the news, and they are available only for companies with published coverage. This section presents a rating and carries the disclosure below.
