Flow control
Flow-control steps decide which parts of a workflow continue and which information they receive. Use them to select relevant results or avoid repeated output. These steps are available on Free, Pro Lite, and Pro within the workflow's step allowance.
Before you begin
- Add a data or AI step that produces the value you want to evaluate.
- Run a test and inspect that value's type: a number, text, yes/no result, or list.
Quickstart
- Add Condition after the step you want to inspect.
- Select Source field from an earlier connected step.
- Choose Operator and Compare against.
- Connect the true branch to the step that should run when the comparison passes.
- Optional: connect the false branch to an alternative output.
- Test the workflow and inspect which branch runs.
What it shows
| Step | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Condition | Route execution through true or false according to a comparison. |
| Filter list | Keep only the items that match a comparison. |
| Change gate | Continue when selected information differs from the prior successful result. |
| Merge | Join incoming paths after they have resolved. |
Inputs
Condition
Choose Source field, Operator, and Compare against. Use the offered comparison appropriate to the field. A yes/no field uses a true or false comparison; a numeric field needs a numeric comparison value.
Filter list
Select List to filter. For items containing several fields, choose Item field (optional) to identify the value to compare. Set Keep items where and the comparison value. The result remains a list, which can be passed to a chart or later analysis.
Change gate and merge
Choose Watch for changes in for a Change gate. Select the whole result or a specific field. A broad selection can count incidental differences as changes, so select the information that matters to the task.
Merge has no additional fields. Connect the paths whose results should join.
Outputs and how to read them
An unselected condition branch or an unchanged result can be skipped without failing the workflow. A filtered list can be empty when no item matches. Inspect each step's status and output to distinguish an intentional skip from an error.
How it is calculated
Comparisons use the selected value and its type. For example, a numeric day change of four is greater than a threshold of three. Text containing the character three is a different type from the number three; select the matching comparison type.
The change gate compares your chosen information with the prior successful result. It does not predict whether a change matters financially.
Data and timing
The comparison happens during each run using that run's inputs. Previous run under Add data supplies the most recent successful Saved report from a successful run when your analysis needs to explain what changed. It returns an empty result if no qualifying report exists; email, chart, file, and AI-only results do not qualify.
Use cases
- Send an email only when a selected condition is true.
- Filter a list to holdings whose moves merit review.
- Avoid a repeated report when the selected information has not changed.
Limitations and disclosures
A condition supplies its decision to the next step. It does not automatically forward all earlier research. In a later AI step, use Choose specific fields to include news, holdings, or other data from before the condition.
