Workflow editor
The editor turns your research task into connected steps. This page explains the canvas, configuration panels, draft status, and run controls. Editing is available on Free, Pro Lite, and Pro, on both desktop and mobile.
Before you begin
- Create a workflow or open one from Workflows.
- Have any portfolio, watchlist, saved prompt, or subagent you plan to use available in your account.
Quickstart
- Select a step from the palette or drag it onto the canvas.
- Select the step to open its configuration.
- Check for an automatic connection, then connect its output to the next step only if the connection is absent.
- Select the issue or warning count to review anything that needs attention.
- Select Test to inspect the draft's result.
- Select Save to publish the reviewed version.
What it shows
The palette and canvas
The palette groups steps under When it runs, Add data, Think with AI, Flow control, and Send and save. Each step describes what it does. Plan limits can prevent adding another step or selecting a trigger.
Drag steps to arrange them. Connections establish the order of work. A trigger starts a path, so it cannot receive an incoming connection. Email me and Saved report finish paths. Charts and files can feed later outputs.
Use the true or false connection on a Condition to choose a branch. The editor refuses loops, repeated connections, and a connection from a step back to itself. A workflow supports one starting trigger; leave it out for manual runs.
Clicking a palette item, or tapping it in the mobile add panel, adds it beside the selected step and connects them when the direction is unambiguous. A selected Condition needs you to choose its branch, and a finishing output cannot supply a new connection. Check the canvas before drawing a connection yourself.
Remove a step or connection
- To remove a step, select it and choose Delete node in its configuration panel. On a phone, the same action is at the bottom of the step's lower panel.
- To remove a connection, select the connection and use its Delete connection control on the canvas. This control also works on a phone.
- On desktop, you can select a step or connection and press Backspace or Delete.
Removing a source or its connection can invalidate later field selections. Review those steps and the issue list, then test the draft before saving it. To replace a trigger, remove the existing trigger first and connect the replacement to the intended starting step.
Step configuration
Selecting a step opens its controls. Source pickers select results from earlier connected steps. A whole result and a specific field are different choices: use a field when the next step needs one number, text value, or list.
For AI analysis, directly connected data is included by default. Data further back in the workflow needs Choose specific fields. In particular, a condition supplies a decision, not all the research that preceded it.
Mobile editing
Use the gold add button to open the palette. Tap a step to configure it in the lower panel, and drag to move it. The header scrolls sideways when its actions do not fit. Refine can appear as an icon on smaller screens.
Inputs
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Workflow name | Rename the workflow. Press Enter or leave the field to save the name. |
| Issue or warning count | Open messages and select a step-specific issue to focus that step. |
| Test | Save pending draft edits and run the draft. |
| Save | Validate and publish the draft as the runnable version. |
| Active | Enable or disable future automatic starts for the published version. |
| Refine | Save the draft and open a GNG Analyst chat to discuss changes. |
| Delete workflow | Confirm permanent deletion of the workflow and its run history. |
Outputs and how to read them
Unsaved changes, Saving draft, Draft saved, and Draft save failed describe whether your current edits are retained. Draft saved does not mean those edits are published. Save performs that separate step.
Valid means the required checks pass. Warnings can still identify weak inputs or a large amount of work. Read them before confirming a save or activation. A valid arrangement does not guarantee accurate AI analysis.
Data and timing
Automatic runs and Run now use the published version. Test uses the current draft and can spend credits or send email. Saving an already active workflow changes its published version without turning Active off.
Changing Timezone is different from editing a step: it saves immediately and affects an active schedule immediately. See Schedule a workflow.
Use cases
- Improve a draft while preserving the version already used for automatic runs.
- Add a decision before an email output.
- Ask GNG Analyst to refine a workflow, then review the resulting edits.
Limitations and disclosures
Deleting a step can leave later source selections incomplete. Check the issue list after changing connections. Deleting the whole workflow cannot be undone.
