Document styles
Document styles give your recurring files a consistent appearance. Create a style once and select it in a PDF or Excel file step. Free, Pro Lite, and Pro can manage styles for their workflows; AI-assisted design uses GNG credits.
Before you begin
- Open a workflow with a PDF or Excel file step.
- Prepare a test document so you can check how the style affects the result.
Quickstart
- Select the file step and open Manage styles beside Style.
- Choose a saved style to edit, or adjust the form for a new style.
- Review the preview as you change appearance settings.
- Enter a new name and select Save as new, or save changes to the selected style.
- Return to the file step and select the saved Style.
- Test the workflow and open the generated document.
What it shows
The style editor combines your saved styles, an appearance form, and a preview. Saved entries can be selected, renamed, or deleted. The preview illustrates the design; the generated file shows how it applies to your actual content.
Generate with AI accepts a written description of the desired appearance. When editing a saved style, the refinement controls accept changes to that design. AI suggestions load into the form for review and require saving.
Inputs
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|

Keep GNG default in the file step when you do not need a custom style.
Outputs and how to read them
A saved style becomes available in the file step's Style picker. It changes the document's appearance, not the underlying figures or conclusions. Check the generated format, since PDF and spreadsheet layouts present content differently.
Data and timing
Later runs use the selected saved style. Updating a style can therefore affect several workflows that use it. Existing downloaded files do not change. AI generation and refinement use GNG credits when requested.
Use cases
- Keep weekly reports visually consistent.
- Use a compact style for dense research and a more spacious style for reading.
- Save a variation under a new name before changing a widely used style.
Limitations and disclosures
Deleting a style that a workflow still references can make its document step fail. Select another style or GNG default in those workflows before deleting it.
